Melanie's new project 'Machine/Icon/Monument' has been awarded a Blueprint R&D Grant from Without Walls. The award assists the R&D development of this new large scale ensemble performance installation, which is a collaboration with architects Hawkins Brown.

Live Long & Die Out - scratch performance

Melanie will be presenting an excerpt of her new show 'Live Long & Die Out' at the Pulse Festival, Norwich on Saturday 2nd June. Featuring three celebrated singers and Melanie herself, the show translates its audience's input on ideas around the impact of climate change on our choice to reproduce into multi-vocal music.

The Shape of the Pain, Edinburgh Fringe 2017

New British Music Theatre, Operadagen Festival

Melanie has been chosen as a New British Music Theatre artist, and will travel to the Operadagen Festival, Rotterdam this May to present her work alongside a group of artists from the U.K. 

New British Music Theatre (or NBMT), is a new artist-led initiative, launched to bring together and showcase exceptional practitioners working in music-driven theatre of all styles across the UK. More info here

Opera for the Unknown Woman - upcoming discussions

Melanie and Fuel are hosting two discussions this April, as part of the ongoing development of new project Opera for the Unknown Woman:

Thursday 9th April 6.30pm, The Nash Lecture Theatre, Level 2, King’s Building, Strand Campus, King’s College London

At this event Melanie Wilson and Dr Christina Scharff (Lecturer at Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries at King’s College, London who recently published a report on equality and diversity in the classical music profession) will discuss themes in the opera including climate change, science fiction and feminism.

Come along to this event and talk with us about the ideas for the opera and what feminist theatre might mean.

Tuesday 14th April, 7pm, ONCA Gallery, 14 Saint George's Place, Brighton

At this event Melanie Wilson and Dr Julie Doyle (Reader in Media Studies at the University of Brighton Faculty of Arts and author of Mediating Climate Change) will discuss the themes in the opera including climate change and feminism.

'The Forbidden Zone', Salzburg Festival 2014

Melanie is designing sound for The Forbidden Zone, a multi-media performance directed by Katie Mitchell, for the Salzburg Festival in July 2014. The piece is conceived as part of the First World War centenary, and will also be screened in a live stream at Barbican on 2nd August.

The Victorian in the Wall

Platform Journal

Melanie will be speaking at the launch of Royal Holloway University's new Platform Journal on Friday 2nd December, at the Centre for Creative Collaboration. Melanie's performance, 'Iris Brunette' is the subject of an article by Jane Turner: 'Diegetic Theatre as a 'Place' for the Theatricalised Spectator', which features in the new edition of the journal. Melanie will be speaking about the role of spectatorship and participation in her work.

Autobiographer showings, Roundhouse

On 22nd and 23rd October, Melanie presented showings of her new sound work Autobiographer at the Roundhouse Studio, together with a cast of three supporting performers Catherine Dyson, Sabina Netherclift and Bernadette O'Brien. The piece was received very positively and plans are underway now to complete work on the piece for a scheduled premiere in Spring 2011. 'every minute, always' scratch, Mayfest Forest Fringe Microfestival, Bristol

On 8th and 9th May, Abigail Conway and Melanie will present the first outing of their headphones performance for cinema at Bristol Old Vic as part of the Forest Fringe Microfestival at Mayfest. ‘every minute, always’ is an installation performance that takes place in a cinema (the auditorium of the Old Vic for this outing), and which is created for two participants to undertake together. Seated amongst other participating couples, the experience unfolds for each participant through headphones and in concert with what they see on screen.

'The View from Here' scratch, BAC Forest Fringe Microfestival

On 2nd and 3rd April, Melanie will be scratching a new idea for an audio performance at the BAC Forest Fringe microfestival. 'The View from Here' will be an headphones experience for one person at a time and is an adaptation of a piece Melanie made for radio in 2008. The finished piece will be presented in July as part of BAC's One on One Festival.
