Melanie Wilson

Self Portrait with Frida

In February 2011 Melanie was selected as one of six artists commissioned to design a permanent bedroom for future resident artists at BAC. The bedrooms were inaugerated during the One on One Festival in April 2011, and hosted a specially commissioned new performance from each artist.

Melanie's room recreated the extraordinary bedroom of artist Frida Kahlo, and her piece 'Self Portrait with Frida' took the form of an illustrated conversation between the participant and their reflection, through a meditative study in sonic and visual self-perception.

"Sometimes the best encounters are with yourself and that's the case with Melanie Wilson's Self-Portrait With Frida, a quietly absorbing few minutes that makes you really consider who you are."
