Melanie developed this piece in August 2019, during a Snape residency at the disused BT sound laboratory at Martlesham Heath. The project takes the third movement of Berio’s Symphonia and the post-human philosophy of Timothy Morton as its starting point.

Together with singer Peyee Chen, Melanie conducted vocal experiments using the anechoic and reverb chambers at the Lab, together with the old analogue telephone testing equipment there, including artificial mouths, voices and ears.
