every minute, always

every minute, always is an interactive film, by Abigail Conway & Melanie Wilson.

Based on the themes of connection and intimacy in David Lean’s Brief Encounter. The performance is set in a cinema and intended for audiences to experience in pairs. Each couple follow separate verbal instructions through individual headsets, and become part of a larger landscape with the other couples who are participating. Action is timed precisely and linked to screen images. From the intimate, low-lit vantage of the cinema seat, the participant is guided by the voice of the narrator into a rich, and sonically transporting world of cinematic perspective. Underscoring the journey for each participant are the subtle tones of their relationship with each other; their relationship with their fellow cinema participants, and the intimate cinema environment.

The piece was developed at BAC weekender 2009, May Fest and Forest Fringe Micro Festival at the Bristol Old Vic. It premiered with Forest Fringe at the Filmhouse cinema at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010. Since then it has been performed at the ICA London, Flatpack Festival in Birmingham, Warwick Arts Centre and Almost Cinema in Ghent, Belgium.

every minute, always was presented as part of the British Council Showcase in Edinburgh 2011.
