self portrait with Frida
self portrait with Frida
self portrait with Frida was an interactive installation with sound, commisioned by BAC for the One on One Festival in 2011.
Participants entered a reconstuction of Frida Kahlo’s bedroom, guided by a soundtrack on headphones. They spent the duration of the performance lying on Frida’s famous mirrored bed, sketching a self-portrait, which they then framed and hung on the wall. Over the course of the festival, a gallery of self-portraits accumulated.
‘ Sometimes the best encounters are with yourself and that's the case with Melanie Wilson's Self-Portrait With Frida, a quietly absorbing few minutes that makes you really consider who you are.’
