self portrait with Frida

self portrait with Frida was an interactive installation with sound, commisioned by BAC for the One on One Festival in 2011.

Participants entered a reconstuction of Frida Kahlo’s bedroom, guided by a soundtrack on headphones. They spent the duration of the performance lying on Frida’s famous mirrored bed, sketching a self-portrait, which they then framed and hung on the wall. Over the course of the festival, a gallery of self-portraits accumulated.

Sometimes the best encounters are with yourself and that's the case with Melanie Wilson's Self-Portrait With Frida, a quietly absorbing few minutes that makes you really consider who you are.’
